✨ The Shape of Light✨

New paintings by Michelle Harvey | Blackroom Gallery, Flinders

Light has always been my compass — the way it glows across open sky, softens the horizon, and transforms the familiar into something transcendent.

The Shape of Light is a new collection of atmospheric Australian landscape paintings, exploring how light moves through land and sky. These works are painted intuitively, from memory and feeling rather than reference, capturing the fleeting radiance that lingers in the imagination long after the moment has passed.

Each painting began with a sensation — the memory of sitting on the beach waiting for last rays of sunset, watching a storm on the horizon gather momentum and fill the sky. Through many layers of delicate glazes, I’ve aimed to create depth, softness and movement — the sensation of being surrounded by air and light.

This exhibition continues my exploration of the relationship between light, landscape, and memory, and the emotional pull of vast skies and shifting weather.

The Shape of Light opens at Blackroom Gallery, Flinders, from 1–30 November 2025, with an opening drinks on Saturday 1 November, 2–4pm. All works are available directly through the gallery.
