Les Toiles du Soleil 5, 20cm x 20cm

My paintings are based on memory and nostalgia, usually childhood memories and more often than not, endless summer holidays.

Inspired by vintage striped canvas deckchairs in France, the iconic Les Toiles du Soleil (cloth of the sun). These sunny striped canvases have been produced in the south of France for 150 years. Espadrilles and camp stools, tents and totes all in colourful stripes epitomise the summer holidays of my childhood.
